Key members of the current Deliver Strategies team were privileged to work directly in support of President Obama’s re-election efforts in 2012. In 2008 and again in 2012, Dylan Sumner headed up the direct mail effort that helped the President win Florida twice. As the 2012 election approached, polling and pundits indicated Florida would be one of the tightest contests – and winning it would all but seal the President’s re-election.
An increasingly polarized electorate meant that targeting had to be precise to find and move undecided voters. Dylan Sumner led the mail team that worked with the Obama analytics team to hone in on those Florida voters, and ensure the most effective pieces to reach the right voters at the right time.
Dylan’s team also worked with Obama’s analytics team to isolate GOTV targets and use tested, data-driven designs to maximize turnout among these targets who voted by mail, voted early or on Election Day.
Despite proclamations from Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush predicting a Romney win in Florida, President Obama was victorious on Election Day, winning 50% to 49% — due in large part to an unprecedented communication effort across the board, including the most sophisticated direct mail persuasion and GOTV effort the state has ever seen.
